MDGs-1000-daysDo you know about the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals? Have you ever heard anyone you know talk about them? I had no idea that they existed before I decided to play a more active role in helping improve our world.

In 2000, world leaders joined the U.N. Millennium Summit at the U.N. headquarters in New York and committed to working together to fight against extreme poverty. The 8 Millennium Development Goals were agreed upon, with a deadline to achieve these goals by 2015. Today marks 1000 days before the 2015 deadline, and to mark this, there is a 1000-minute digital rally that has been going on since 8:00am EDT today, and will continue until 1:00am EDT tomorrow.

I encourage everyone to follow the conversation through #MDGMomentum on Twitter. I’ve been following and participating in the conversation since it started, and I have learned so much more already in just a few minutes. Also, there are many different events going on throughout the digital rally. By looking at the schedule, it seems like an event starts every 30 minutes! So there are a lot of opportunities for everyone to participate.
