Please click http://shotatlife.org/join.html to sign up as a supporter for Shot@Life and be a part of history and join the movement to support access to vaccines globally. When asked “How did you hear about us,” it is very important that you please click “OTHER” and please type CANDICE D. under “Specify.” My goal is to find at least 20 people to sign-up by March 22, 2013.

shot_at_life_badge_300x250I was recently chosen as one of the 100 Shot@Life 2013 champions throughout the US. It’s a campaign of the UN Foundation that advocates, educates, and fundraises in the United States to support access to vaccines globally. The 4 major vaccines that Shot@Life advocates for are against Polio, measles, rotavirus (children die from dehydration due to diarrhea), and Streptococcus pneumonae (pneumococcal virus). Currently, the main focus of organizations such as Shot@Life is to eradicate Polio because only 3 countries in the world are still not Polio-free (Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan). The world is now 99% Polio-free, which is why a lot of people aren’t even aware of what it is or that it is still a problem outside the U.S. So why stop now, right? All of us should be weary of Polio, wherever we are, because traveling is so easy nowadays. So it is important to work towards a 100% Polio-free world. We already eliminated smallpox, and Polio will be next in just a few years if we all work together.

Every 20 seconds, a child dies due to a vaccine-preventable disease. I was lucky enough to have parents who understood the importance of vaccines even at a time when the Philippines was still not declared Polio-free (Philippines was declared Polio-free in 2000). There are mothers around the world who walk for 2-3 hours just to get their children vaccinated because they want to give their children a shot at healthier, longer lives. Please support Shot@Life so parents everywhere could at least have the opportunity to choose to vaccinate their children.

My goal is to find at least 20 individual Shot@Life supporters by March 22, 2013. I hope that you do understand the importance of giving everyone, everywhere access to life-saving vaccines. Again, please click http://shotatlife.org/join.html and sign up as a supporter for Shot@Life. When asked “How did you hear about us,” it is very important that you please click “OTHER” and please type CANDICE D. under “Specify.”

Thank you for your support.

PS – If possible, please inform me once you’ve signed-up. Thank you!
