By following @GLBLCTZN and @UNICEFUSA on Twitter, I discovered an organization I haven’t heard of before: Pencils of Promise.

It’s an organization that promotes children’s rights to education by building schools in places all over the world that need them the most. The materials are locally (recipient) purchased, and local residents help out by donating their time and effort in building the schools. Pencils of Promise believes that this promotes a sense of community and lets the locals feel a sense of ownership of the school.

On top of building the physical structure, Pencils of Promise also hires local educators and creates sustainable educational programs. They then monitor the school to ensure that they continue on providing quality education to children.
